The Institute of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IPHYS) is one of the leading biomedical

research institutions in the Czech Republic. We seek a dynamic head of the Bioinformatics service lab

to lead our new core facility. This role combines technical expertise, strategic leadership, and

collaboration to drive high-quality bioinformatics services. Ideal candidates are proactive leaders

passionate about advancing computational biology infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Operations

• Oversee a team of bioinformaticians, ensuring efficient delivery of core services and

fostering professional growth.

• Manage daily operations of the service lab, including user consultations, data analysis, and

publication-ready figure generation.

• Collaborate with core facilities in metabolomics, proteomics, and bioimaging.

• Collaborate with Data steward to align bioinformatics workflows with institutional

informatics strategies.

Research & Development

• Design, implement, and optimize bioinformatics pipelines for multi-omics data

(metabolomics, lipidomics, proteomics, (spatial) transcriptomics.

• Support translational research projects by integrating clinical data with omics datasets.

• Lead independent or collaborative research initiatives (optional).

Service Delivery

• Provide statistical analysis and experimental design guidance for internal users.

• Develop training programs and workshops to enhance internal users’ proficiency in

bioinformatics tools and AI.

Qualifications:

Essential

• PhD (preferred) or MSc in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.

• Orientation in biology and physiology within the research areas of IPHYS.

• Proficiency in Python; familiarity with R.

• Demonstrated experience via GitHub repositories or open-source contributions.

• Hands-on expertise in clinical or large-scale omics data analysis.

• Fluency in English and strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaborations.

Desirable

• Knowledge of machine learning applications in bioinformatics.

• Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., FAIR data, OpenScience, ISO standards).
